Our Jets Gymnastics State Squad girls ages range from 9 – 12 who train 8 hours, 3 days a week participated in two competitions this year competing as State 4. The first competi-tion was on the 13th of August 2011 at the YMCA Gymnastics Centre in Geelong where all 8 gymnasts competed
to their best abilities and gained heaps experience whilst having fun. Both Jets team’s placed 7th overall and Heidi Merritt also placing 2nd on Vault and 3rd on Bars. On the 17th of September they com-peted at Club Championships in Gisborne where they used their experience from the Geelong Competition and improved this time with impressive scores.
With our new Jets level system put in place this year, the girls have already passed not 1 but two levels this year. They have currently just passed Pink level with some difficult skills including Flips on tramp, Handstands on beam and tuck on onto a bar. I can see the girls will be well on their way striving to achieve Black level.
The girls have put in a tremendous amount of time and effort into training each week and this has certainly paid off as each gymnast are performing harder skills including round off back flip either on the floor or tumble tramp, handstand on and front saults off beam, Con-tinuous front saults, back flips and saults on tramp, tuck on, toe shoots, ¾ giants or giants on bars and handsprings on the vault.
