Well it has been another amazing year at the Jets High Performance Centre. The year started with a bang with our Squad Training Camp in January. This year the camp was held at Pinnacle Resort in Mansfield and was the best ever. The girls had an absolute ball whipping their bodies into shape with a variety of non-gymnastic activities such as swim-ming, boating, running, dancing.
This camp also provided a vital club bonding experience with fun games nights and the introduc-tion of the house points system.
USA Tour
February passed by me in a blur with the USA Tour. This was a truly inspiring experience for all of us who went and will continue to be an annual or bi-annual event in our calendar. It provides our Sen-ior Gymnasts with the opportuni-ty to see outside the confines of Australian Gymnastics. In one American club alone they would easily have the number of level 10 gymnasts that we have here na-tionwide. Our 4 girls loved train-ing and competing alongside some of the best gymnasts in the world, including the members of the USA team, the French National team, Romanians and Canadi-ans. It is also valuable to see Col-lege Gymnastics and consider the educational pathways that gym-nastics can offer our girls in the future. We have formed some valuable international friendships and even featured in a huge arti-cle in the International Gymnast magazine.
Competitions
The early part of 2011 also saw our Senior Gymnasts doing won-derful things in competitions, culminating in the Victorian Championships in June. Several of our girls went on to represent Victorian at the National Champi-onships in Perth in July and at the Trans Bass Challenge in Tasmania in August, all with great results.
In August it was our Junior Na-tional and State level girls turn to represent our club in Victorian competitions, and all did so beau-tifully. It was great to see so many teams of Jets leotards at all levels. Our four Gymsports girls made an amazing transition from gymnas-tics to Aerobics and Cheerleading, not only making the Victorian team, but also qualifying for Na-tional Championships and finish-ing 6th in Australia.
Closer to home we saw the Satel-lites compete in their first internal competitions and many passed Bronze and Silver levels in 2011. We enjoyed successful Club Championships and of course another super-fun Display Day.
Closing the doors to Peel st
As we close the doors at our Peel St venue for the very last time in a few weeks we can reflect on the memories we have shared there over the last few years. Our girls and our program have come so far in such a short time. We can look ahead with excited anticipation to the open-ing of our new Diamond Creek venue which will be another sig-nificant moment in our Jets Gym-nastics journey.
I have many people I need to thank for making 2011 such an exciting and successful one. My staff have been particularly out-standing this year in their dedica-tion to bringing out the best in your children. Ross, as always, has given his all to this club, and con-tinues to be the driving force in our quest to be “the best gymnas-tics club in the world”. I would like to thank the parents for providing your talented children with the opportunity to partici-pate in this sport. Your support of the journey is a real investment in their future. You only have to look at our senior athletes to see what responsible and caring young adults, competitive gymnastics has helped them to become. Many of you have supported the club immensely with your dona-tion of time helping with events and fundraising. Lastly, and most importantly, thank-you to the 100 or so girls we work with everyday. It is a real privilege to work with such mature, fun and talented young ladies. You are the reason we do what we do and I thank you for making 2011 such a great year.
From all of us at Jets Gymnastics I wish you a very Merry Christmas and safe holidays. I look forward to seeing you all at Diamond Creek for an even bigger and better 2012!
