Senior Victorian Championships

On the Queen’s Birthday long weekend 21 of our highest level gymnasts competed in the Victorian Championships. This event is the biggest in the Victorian gymnastics calendar, featuring Men’s & Women’s Artistic Gymnastics as well as Rhythmic Gymnastics and Trampolining.

Our athletes competed extremely well, taking home many medals over the weekend. Results are as follows:

  • Maddie Green (Senior International) 6th All around
  • Isis Lowery (Junior International) 2nd All around, 1st Vault , 1st Floor, 3rd Bars,
  • Britt Engellener (International Level 10) – withdrew through injury
  • Bri Allen (International Level 8) – 2nd Beam, 3rd Floor, 4th All Around
  • Emily Dean (International Level 8) 6th All Around
  • Aleisha McKay (International Level 6) 9th All Around
  • Harriet Adcock (National Level 10) 2nd All around, 2nd Beam, 2nd Bars, 3rd Floor
  • Teliah Farren-Price (National Level 7) 12th All around, 4th Beam, 4th Floor
  • Hannah Chubb (National Level 7) 16th All around
  • National Level 6 team (Phoebe Chakar 8th AA, Kaitlin Leffley, Caitlin Harris, Hailey Thomas, Leah Stangherlin, Britt Green & Izzy Sommers) 2nd Team in Victoria
  • William Haines - Jets Gymnastics Shepparton now training in the Mens VIG program came 17th All Around in the Level 4 under division

Highlights of the weekend included Maddie Green completing 2 days of Senior International competition for the first time and Isis performing more than 6 new skills for the first time. Harriet, Hannah & Teliah showed amazing consistency hitting 8 out of 8 routines for the competition. Teliah was selected in the Victorian level 7 team to compete in the Tasmanian Championships in August and Emily qualified for the Victorian team travelling to Perth in 2 weeks to compete at the Australian Championships. Thank-you to Ross, Sally and Tim for coaching all weekend and to Jo Tassone and Sam Lowe for judging.

By far the best part of the weekend though was our unbelievable support crew. Other clubs and judges were all talking about the huge cheer squad we had. It seemed that nearly a third of the audience were wearing red, waving the “Go Jets!” signs and cheering for our gymnasts. There is little doubt that the cheer squad contributed to our gymnasts performing so well and it was exciting to see so many of our coaches and younger gymnasts supporting their club mates and learning about sportsmanship and club spirit. Thank-you to Nicole Engellener for organising the tickets and Kris & Jemma Marshall for organising the signs.

What a great club community we have built together. Jets just keeps getting bigger and better every year. Next year we hope to have half the audience in red and even better performances from our girls!
