Jets Gymnastics was fortunate to be invited to perform in this year's annual Myer Christmas Parade held on Sat 15 Nov 2008. Preparations for our involvement in this massive parade commenced months ago under the guidance of Company Director and Head Squad Coach Ross Bouskill and Head Choreographer and Squad Coach Linden Skerry. The parade brought together almost 100 Jets participants - both gymnasts and sports aerobics girls aged from 5 to 20 years old. Rehearsals were held over a number of weeks - and included visists from the official parade organisers and choreographers.
The weather on the day of the parade was beautiful - blue skies and sunny (but not too hot!). Gymnasts and their parents arrived in the city by 9am and following a warm-up and lots of waiting around, it was finally time for Jets to start performing! Our girls felt like stars in amongst celebrities such as recently retired AFL footballers Adam Ramanauskas and David Neitz, swimming legend Leisel Jones not to mention everyone's favourite characters Dora the Explorer and Batman! It was a sea of red & black as gymnasts and aerobics girls marched, jumped and cartwheeled along Bourke St from Spring St to the Bourke St Mall!! In front of the iconic Myer building was a stage on which our Senior Gymnasts and Sports Aerobics Members were to perform a special routine! After a slight technical hiccup (and some quick thinking by Jets coaches, in particular Ellie Bunn who luckily had a spare copy of our music!) our gymnasts performed in front of a myriad of cameras for the Channel 7 audience! The parade was such a wonderful opportunity for all involved and could not have happened without the support of so many people. Thank you to all of the coaches, gymnasts, parents and to the Myer staff for helping us to put on such a professional and inspiring performance. Click here for photos of the magical day!
